Now Carrying Neocutis Facial Washes!

We are very excited to announce that we are now carrying two brand new face washes from the always fantastic Neocutis!  NEO-CLEANSE, two clarifying cleansers rich in Glycerol help counteract the drying effects of ordinary skin cleansing and help limit the signs of irritation.
Glycerol is naturally present in the skin and has long been considered a staple of skin-care formulations due to its moisturizing properties.      However, Glycerol is also found to help prevent trans-epidermal water loss, restore the skin barrier, act as an anti-irritant, enhance cellular energy, and accelerate the wound-healing process.

For Intolerant or Sensitive Skin, Neocutis now offers the Gentle Skin Cleanser:
Luxuriously creamy cleanser rich in Glycerol gently purifies skin without compromising skin's natural barrier.

For Normal to Oily Skin, Neocutis gives us the Exfoliating Cleanser:
Re-texturizing 10% Glycolic Acid gel cleanser reveals fresh, vibrant skin that glows with the hydration of Glycerol.

Topical Treatments for Anti-Aging Skin Care

In addition to getting enough rest and eating a well-balanced diet high in anti-oxidants, you must have a daily skin care regimen that addresses your particular anti-aging needs.
As we age, our skin can manifest a variety of symptoms that need to be addresses or our skin tissues will begin to degenerate, sometimes quite rapidly.
One of the main issues in combating the effects of aging on your skin is reducing inflammation. Inflammation can manifest as acne, redness, and swelling of the skin tissue. To fight inflammation effectively, we recommend a daily regimen consisting of:

AM:
  • Neocutis Exfoliating Face Wash or Sesderma Salises Wash (if acne prone)
  • Neocutis BioGel or Cream with PSP
  • Sesderma Azelac Gel or Lotion or Sesderma Mandelac Gel
PM:
  • Neocutis Exfloiating Face Wash or Sesderma Salises Wash
  • Neocutis BioGel or Cream with PSP
  • Sesderma C-VIT Serum or Sesderma Resveraderm Gel (if acne prone)

Of course, most of our clients have individual needs and concerns. The above recommendations can be customized to meet each of our clients individual concerns.

Our next installment will address Anti-Aging Skin Care that specifically addresses problems with pigmentation and sun damage.

Anti-Aging Skin Care: Using Good Nutrition to Heal Your Skin

What you put into your body has a direct effect on how you feel and on your overall health.  It also has an effect on your skin and complexion.
Anti-oxidants fight free radicals. Free radicals can come from a variety of external and internal stresses; from pollution, to junk food, to stress.
If we don't have anti-oxidants on board to battle the free radicals, our skin will break down and display a plethora of negative signs and symptoms. Eating certain foods can go a long way in assisting with a variety of troublesome skin conditions. See below for examples of skin problems and the foods that help fight them:
  • Inflammation
  • Acne
  • Redness
  • Irritated/Sensitive skin

Foods high in Melatonin will help combat inflammation
  • cherries
  • tomatoes
  • bananas
  • rice bran
  • ginger

  • Sun damage
  • Skin laxity
  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
Foods high in Resveraltrol will help protect against photo damage (sun damage), will help slow the break down of collagen, and perhaps prolong life.

  • grapes
  • blueberries
  • red wine

  • Damaged skin
Foods high in vitamin C and vitamin E work powerfully together to protect against sun damage, hydrate skin, fight free radicals, produce collagen, and repair damaged cells

  • kiwi
  • citrus
  • wheat germ oil
  • nuts
  • leafy greens
  • broccoli

  • Dry skin
Adding foods like nuts, salmon, flax seed will help hydrate your skin cells from within.
Limit caffeine and alcohol intake as these can dehydrate your cells.

  • Oily/Acne prone skin
Adding probiotics to your diet (foods high in vitamin A and Zinc) will reduce inflammation and production of oil associated with blemishes.
Limit dairy products like milk and yogurt where hormones are used. Use hormone-free dairy products instead.

  • Red skin
For red, inflamed skin, eating cucumbers or other foods high in Zinc can help reduce the inflammation from within. Zinc is essential for injury repair. You can find Zinc in:

  • almonds
  • chickpeas
  • cucumbers
  • shellfish
If you have red, inflamed skin, avoid alcohol, caffeinated beverages, and highly spiced foods.

While a dietary plan to help maintain and heal your skin is an important aspect to anti-aging and caring properly for your body, it is not enough!

Anti-Aging Nutrition

Feeling great, along with beautiful, glowing skin can be directly linked to what you eat. Doctors and nutritional experts have long supported the connection between health, skin, and diet. What you should eat and in what amounts are the questions many of our clients are asking us.
According to recent medical research, it is most important to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables. The deeper the color of the fruit or vegetable, the more "super" the food, i.e: high in anti-oxidants, nutrients, and vitamins. Carotenoids, or naturally occurring pigments, tell you that a food is naturally filled with anti-oxidants and rich with wonderful benefits for your body, brain, and skin.
Much has been reported on the value and importance of incorporating anti-oxidants into your diet and skin care regimen, especially in the fight against free radicals. Free radicals can cause inflammation, cell damage, and disease, which is why a diet rich in anti-oxidants is of utmost importance.
Unfortunately, many people do not know the right food sources to obtain anti-oxidants. Here is a simple list of foods that offer a high dose:

Vitamin C
  • citrus fruits
  • red sweet peppers
  • plantains
  • broccoli
  • kale
  • potatoes
Vitamin A
  • fish oil
  • eggs
  • pumpkin
  • mozzarella cheese
Vitamin E
  • nuts
  • avocados
  • ginger
  • soybeans
  • asparagus
Selenium
  • fish
  • red meat
  • chicken
  • grains
  • eggs
  • garlic
So, yes! It is possible to improve your skin through a diet high in anti-oxidants. However, that is not enough! Good skin care with products that contain active ingredients and highly absorbable anti-oxidants is vital to fighting  the signs of aging skin.
